“The only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going inside ourselves.”
― Bessel A. van der Kolk,
My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, comfortable, and healing environment for anyone who is willing. Therapy should be a partnership between the client and the therapist, working together to foster confidence and connection to one’s self. I enjoy sitting with my clients as we get to know themes that occur repeatedly in one's life. I encourage my clients to approach 'problematic' behaviors with curiosity, moving away from the tendency to remain stuck in judgment. Oftentimes holding space for our thoughts and feelings and sitting in what is uncomfortable can bring us to a place of understanding and healing.
My name is Eileen. I graduated from Drexel University in 2016 with a MA in Counseling and Art Therapy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) and a Level 1 trained Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist. I have a specialization in trauma and women’s health, and I’ve had the privilege of working closely with children, adolescents, teens, and adults of all ages and genders.
TRAUMA THERAPY: I have accumulated over a decade of experience working with various forms of trauma.. Many survivors of trauma sit in a space of self blame, shame, guilt, feelings of being damaged, and often feel stuck in the past. I aim to support my clients in working towards understanding, to manage the symptoms of dissociation, dysregulation, depression, suicidal ideation, intrusive thoughts, problematic relationship patters, somatic symptoms and so on.
WOMEN’S HEALTH: I have extensive experience working with women’s health and have focused my clinical work over the past 4 years in women’s trauma which has included childhood abuse, medical diagnosis (cancer), postpartum, and generational/ legacy work.
ART THERAPY: Art therapy is a creative tool that can be implemented with all ages and genders. Personally, I like to use my art therapy training to assist my clients in processing, externalizing and gaining a different perspective. Encouraging creative avenues within therapy enhances the depth of healing beyond what verbal processing alone can achieve. I incorporate art therapy selectively, based on what I believe is suitable for the client I am assisting.
INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS: IFS is a non-pathologizing evidenced based psychotherapy model used to help clients access and heal inner wounds. IFS helps to foster inner and outer connectedness creating more access to our true selves. This approach enables individuals to understand their internal experiences rather than making assumptions about the motivations behind behaviors, thoughts, or feelings.
